As a newly married bride, I very well know what it is like to try to look your very best self and the amount of pressure that puts on you. I will tell you from my personal experience that I was thoroughly disappointed with my makeup artist and landed up doing most of the bridal eye makeup all by myself. In trying to do my makeup for D-day what I found out was getting your eye makeup on point is the most difficult part of makeup.
There are many places where you can go wrong and end up looking like you have been punched in the eye if you do not apply your eye makeup properly. So in this guide, I will walk you through the various steps of the Traditional Bridal eye makeup look.

Let us start with a few pro tips first, these tips are not just cut and dried facts but lessons that I have learned while doing my makeup.
Be sure to have your eyebrows waxed or plucked two days before the big day. Waxing or threading on that day causes redness and breakouts.
Always use primer on your lids before applying the eyeshadow if you want to avoid creasing.
Always apply a generous dusting of loose powder to catch the fall out from the eyeshadow.
Never wear extremely heavy false lashes it tends to close the eyes and darken the feature. It is better to use natural-looking lashes or just a good coat of mascara.
Now that we are through with the tips, I will walk you through the steps of the Bridal eye makeup look. For today’s write up I have chosen a traditional yet timeless red and gold eyeshadow look. It is an easy yet perfect eye makeup look for your big day. For an Indian bride red and gold is always a part of our trousseau, even if not for the reception but for the wedding, ceremony red is the uncontested champion. Hence I have chosen this red and gold smokey eye look to ensure that the look goes well with your red saree or lehenga. I will also list the products that I used to achieve this look.
Step 1 – Getting the eyebrows right
Using the LA COLOR Perfect Brow Kit fill up your eyebrows using gentle feather-like strokes. Use the medium brown and make sure there are no strong and harsh lines. Harsh lines make your brows look artificial. It is always advisable to draw out your eyebrows before beginning the eye makeup as it helps in providing coordinates for the eye makeup. If there are irregularities use the Maybelline New York Fit Me Concealer to smoothen them out. Take a small quantity of the concealer on an angled brush and remove any extra lines.
Step 2 – Prepping your eyelids
Now that you have done your eyebrows perfectly, take a small quantity of Lakme Absolute Blur Primer and apply it on the eyelids. You can apply it using your fingertips as this formula is super blendable. This primer provides an excellent base for the eyeshadow and stops it from creasing and fading out. This primer also acts as an excellent concealer and fades out any hyperpigmentation on the eyelids.
Step 3 – Conceal the late nights
Whip out the Fit Me concealer and apply on any spots or dark under-eye area. But here’s a secret, covering the entire under-eye area with concealer makes your eyes look small, hence cover about 80 per cent of the under-eye area and blend the concealer in leaving a little area near the water line uncovered. This helps in opening up the eyes.
Step 4 – Layering on the glitter safety net
Now that the eyelids are prepped and the under-eye area is adequately concealed it is time to layer on some gorgeous red and gold eyeshadow. However, before you bring in those gorgeous shimmery colours be sure to prep the under eye and cheek area with loose powder. We don’t want a full face of glitter now, do we?
Step 5 – Getting the glitter and glam on
Since it is a traditional Indian Bridal eye makeup look, it is a rather heavy eye makeup look. It has two gorgeous colours in it Golden and Red. The trick is to use a small brush, dust off any excess and start blending from one direction. I know how frustrating it is to have to juggle with too many eyeshadow palettes, hence I give you Makeup Revolution London Ultra Eyeshadow Palette which has almost all the basic shades in it plus some beautiful glitters as well. To get this red and gold bridal eyeshadow look this palette will be more than enough.
Use the second colour from the left on the second line of the palette and apply it on your lid using an eyeshadow brush, blend it in perfectly and avoid any harsh lines.
Next select the fourth colour from the third line, a lovely terracotta red, perfect for all complexions and apply it on the eyelid, ore concentrated at the inner side and lighter as you go out.
After this apply the beautiful shimmery golden colour from the palette in the middle of the eyelid in dabbing motions and blend keeping the glitter concentrated at the middle of the lid.
Step 6 – Getting those cat eyes
Now that the gorgeous colours have been layered on it’s time for the perfect winged eyes. It’s your wedding, it is okay to bring on a little drama. To get the perfect winged eyes to use Maybelline New York The Colossal Liner. Start from the inner corner and wing out as you go out. It is no easy task to get the perfect winged liner in the first go hence I recommend a few days of practice in advance. And for any exigency keep your concealer handy, in case there is a bit of a glitch.
Step 7 – The Quintessential Kajal
After the eyeliner is applied it’s now time for the kajal. One thing to remember while applying the kajal is to never overdo it or make it too black and thick. This closes up the eyes and also takes the attention away from the upper lid which is our main point of focus. Instead of a thick layer of kajal apply a thin layer and also do not forget to tight line your eyes.
Step 8 – Getting the lashes right
Next step is the curling your lashes and applying mascara. If you want to go with false lashes that are good too, but I personally do not prefer using false lashes.
Step 9 – Clean your canvas
Now that you are done with your gorgeous bridal eye makeup look it is time to clean up. Dust out the fall out from your face along with the loose powder and also using your wipes and makeup remover rover any glitter or residual eyeshadow that might be stuck on your face. Now that you have a clean canvas apply your L’oreal Paris True Match Super Blendable Liquid Foundation and get on with the rest of your makeup for your big day. But trust me once you’ve got your eye makeup on point, the worst is over.
